The Bible 4 Life
2010 Dedication & 2011 Preaching Committee
Dear Brothers and Sisters 17th August 2010
Greetings in Jesus’ name
2011 is fast approaching and with it the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the King James Version of the Bible. The Bible4Life Committee was set up to capitalise on the publicity surrounding this anniversary, though the theme of The Bible4Life stands alone perfectly. There are two aspects to the effort – a dedication period in 2010 leading to the preaching effort in 2011 and beyond, God willing.
The dedication period is there to enable us all to prepare for the work ahead. This can take many forms, from prayer to ask our God to guide our efforts and bless them as He sees fit; to study to prepare ourselves mentally; and to rededication to refresh ourselves spiritually. The Committee are producing a series of Dedication Booklets to help with this. You should already have received those on Bible Reading and Sunday Schools. More are to follow. There will also be articles in The Christadelphian and Testimony magazines, a series of Bible Class subjects have been provided and a list of useful websites has been produced.
The objective of the preaching effort is to “give your neighbour a Bible”. “Who is my neighbour” you may ask? Well, that is down to individuals and ecclesias to decide, but the Committee are producing various items to help you not only give a Bible, but to help give the neighbour the enthusiasm and ability to read it for themselves. These items consist of:-
1. Bible – Hard back New King James Bible. Good quality, easy to read format. To be bulk purchased so as to be available at approximately £5 each. Available in boxes of 24 (these cannot be split).
2. Insert – Roughly 12 -16 pages on low weight paper suitable to be inserted in the front of the Bible. This is planned to cover how the Bible came to us, translations, why we can trust the Bible and help on how to read the Bible.
3. Newspapers – These are a folded A2 size especially written by Bro John Roberts in newspaper style. Designed to be able to be used for billing or in other ways you can think of. The cost of these we expect to be around the tens of pence mark.
4. DVD – A selection of short films featuring Brethren with Professional expertise explaining why they trust the Bible, for example Archaeologists, Medical Doctors, Historians etc.
5. Bible Reading Handbook and Planners – as per existing CALS materials.
6. Life’s Big Questions Distance Learning Course & DVD’s - Existing course material produced by Bro Lawrence Cave.
7. Other Seminar Materials - for example Bible in an hour and Bible in a nutshell – could be used as an initial event or a follow up.
Further details on these and other materials will follow, along with an order form in the autumn.
